The career of Intermezzo starts in 1984 when five students of the Utrecht Academy of Music decide to sing between classes.
This initially unambitious pastime takes professional shape in 1990 when Intermezzo is asked by director Shireen Strooker to take part in the theater show “Bouvard en Pécuchet."
At the same time the group is working on its own theater show called “Een Avondvullend Intermezzo" (A Full Evening Interlude), being its 1991 official theater debut. That same year Intermezzo releases its first ‘In Fool Color', fulfilling yet another dream. With the help of others including Jeremy Jackman - known from the King's Singers - Intermezzo works on a new theater show they call “Tribunaal" (tribunal), which premieres in 1993. Almost simultaneously they release their second album ‘Still Crazy', in which Intermezzo brings their own repertoire of a cappella vocal virtuosity to perfection.
The group is awarded the Silver Harp by the Conamus Music Foundation for its unique contribution to Dutch popular music.
After eight seasons, Intermezzo calls it a day in 2004.
One group member however wants a relaunch, so he starts a group with a new name: iNtrmzzo. This group has reached its sixth theater show at present: “Close II Perfection."
