Take 6 performs some songs with the Cincinnati Pops on January 19 (or 26) 1997. Alvin about it:

This is our first major concert with an orchestra. We performed one number with the Boston Pops, but this is the first time we're doing three songs, plus a number of a cappella numbers. We're taking baby steps. This is where the magic of charts or arrangements gets tested. Instead of the group providing the accompaniment for the melody, we've got a whole orchestra. The differences in timbres presents new challenges, but we're really excited about it.

April 8 single “You Don't Have to Be Afraid" is released on the Warner Brothers label, in 4 different mixes.

In August, Joey marries Karima Trotter (of the Christian group Virtue).

Cedric receives this year his degree! He wrote a dissertation on the Quartet Singing tradition: ‘THE HARMONIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE BLACK RELIGIOUS QUARTET SINGING TRADITION'.
This dissertation contains some bars of Cedrics transcription of ‘If We Ever', ‘Something Within Me', ‘Get Away Jordan' and ‘Bless This House'; a full transcription of ‘Mary', and a 5-part ‘If We Ever' (from the time before Mark joined).
The thesis is accompanied by a tape with examples (unfortunately no longer available). It contains the following songs:
1. I'm Praying Humble - Mitchell's Christian Singers (1937)
2. One Day When The Lord Will Call Me - Southern Sons (1942)
3. Mary Don't You Weep - Swan Silvertones (1959)
4. Mary - Take 6 (1988)
